How to Arrange a Sectional Couch in a Living Room

If you have a large family or have frequent company, a sectional couch may be the ideal furniture piece for your household. No matter the size of your home, you can make a sectional couch fit comfortably and blend with the rest of your furniture.

Sectional couches come in a variety of shapes, sizes, fabrics, and colors, so you'll have no problem finding one that fits your specific needs. For instance, if you have a larger space, consider purchasing a sectional that features U-shape, with two roomy chaise lounges on either side. For a smaller room, you can pick a couch that has a more streamlined L shape with only one chaise lounge.

Sectionals are available in a wide range of fabrics and materials, depending on your preferences. If you prefer a more natural look, consider going for a brown leather couch. If a sleek style is more your thing, choose a black or white leather sectional for a modern look.

If your redecorating budget doesn't allow real leather, you can find a high-quality vinyl alternative featuring the appearance and feel of authentic leather at a fraction of the cost. Other sectional couch fabrics include easy-to-clean microfiber, smooth suede, and sturdy cotton in a wide array of colors.

Here are some tips for arranging your new sectional couch in your living room:

1. Work Around Existing Furniture

If you have heavy or secured furniture or electronics, such as a TV, that you don't want to or can't move, place the sectional in a spot that works with it. For instance, place the couch a few feet in of the TV so that you have a clear view of it. You can then work other smaller items, such as side tables and recliners, around the couch.

Place a large area rug in front of the sectional to create a cozy, comfortable ambiance if you have wood or tile flooring. You can then set a large ottoman or coffee table on top of the rug for a cohesive look.

2. Consider Placement

If your living room is on the smaller side, consider placing the sectional against a wall to make the most of the available space. In a square-shaped room, you can break up the couch pieces to face each other to create an intimate gathering spot.

In larger rooms, you can place a sectional couch in the middle of a room as a centerpiece. Using this technique is also a good way to divide up a big room into smaller sections. For instance, one half of the room can be used for watching TV, while the other is transformed into a home office.

We think they still have a place in the world, and we think others should know more about them. That is one reason we started this blog to write and share our thoughts about furniture.
