Couches, Settes, and Tables, Oh My!

4 Different Types Of Mattresses

Few things are as crucial as getting a good's night sleep. Getting a good night's sleep is important for both your mental and physical health. A mattress that fits your body is necessary to get the sleep you need. When it comes to choosing a mattress, it is essential to be aware of the different styles of mattress you have to choose from.

1. Innerspring

One of the most popular types of mattresses over the past decades is an innerspring mattress. An innerspring mattress traditionally contained steel springs that are covered with a thin layer of fabric that keeps the springs contained. More modern innerspring mattresses have more layers of padding to ensure the springs don't pop up through the mattress.

The springs can be continuously connected, which isn't great if you are sharing beds with someone, as motion will be easily transferred between sleepers. If you share a bed with someone, you will want to go with a mattress with individually wrapped coils.

2. Foam

Another type of mattress is a foam mattress. There are many types of foam mattresses. There is an open-cell foam that isn't as dense as memory foam. It is lighter and cooler and is designed to respond to your body.

A memory foam mattress provides a lot of cushion and support and is designed to relieve pressure on your body. The one downside to memory foam is that it does tend to hold in heat so that it can make your bed a little warmer. Many mattress companies combat this by adding a layer of gel foam to cool off the memory foam.

3. Latex

Another available choice is a latex foam mattress. Latex is cooler mattresses than memory foam mattresses, and they are just as responsive. They are also great if you move around a lot in your sleep and are really durable. However, you should avoid this type of mattress if you have a latex allergy.

4. Hybrid

Another option is a hybrid mattress. A hybrid mattress is generally a mattress that contains both a traditional foam coil base as well as a layer of either latex or foam on top of the mattress. This type of mattress works well for people who want their mattress to have a more consistent temperature and who use different sleep positions.

When shopping for a mattress, it is essential to consider how the design and materials of the mattress will impact how you sleep. Coil mattresses are not great for people sharing a bed, as you can feel the other person's movements. Foam and latex are better if you are sharing a bed. However, you need to pay attention to the material, as that can impact the bed's temperature as you sleep.
