New or Used

Are you looking for a new mattress or a pre-owned one? There are benefits to both, as a new mattress will last you a lot longer, but a used one will cost a lot less. In most cases, getting a new mattress is a better idea, so you know it's in good condition when you get it, and you'll have more options like getting a warranty, returning it if there are problems, etc. 

Prices

Mattresses sell at various price points, so you should decide how much you're planning on spending before you start looking. Remember that you will be spending many hours of your life lying on it, so you should be willing to pay a reasonable amount of money, so you don't get one that's poor quality. You may be able to find a mattress for a low price, but if it doesn't last as long as more expensive ones, you're not saving money in the long run.

Testing the Mattress

Warranties/Return Options

Before you make a purchase, you should find out about warranty and return options. Should something go wrong, you want to be sure you'll be protected. Luckily, it's common for new mattresses to come with warranties, so you won't have to worry about it. 

Delivery

Unless you have your own truck, it's difficult to transport a mattress from the store to your home. Luckily, most stores will offer delivery for free or for a small fee. They might even offer to bring the mattress to your bedroom and set it up for you.
